THE PHANTOM FOUR - "SPECTRAL SOUND SESSIONS" LP
(WSW-032) THE PHANTOM FOUR - SPECTRAL SOUND SESSIONS
12" VINYL ALBUM
After a five-year hiatus, Amsterdam's top instrumental guitar group THE PHANTOM FOUR returned to the stage re-energized and with a new line-up in 2025, bring their desert music, surf guitars and tropical grooves to clubs and festivals across Europe again.
Led by guitarist and composer Phantom Frank, who in the 90's had mainstream succes with his surf group The Treble Spankers, the band became local instrumental guitar legends and have been releasing albums and touring all around Europe, Mexico and the United States since 2004.
With new drummer Martin de Ruiter (T-99, Leadbeaters) joining the line-up, the band moved to a new rehearsal space on the outskirts of their hometown of Amsterdam to dig into their wide catalogue of songs—ranging from surf music and exotic instrumentals to cumbia and Middle Eastern folk music.
Pleasantly surprised by the acoustics of the new room the band decided to capture the sound of the new line-up in this setting. They recorded a mix of alternate versions of well-known tracks from their previous studio albums, previously unrecorded cover versions and staples from their live sets, as well as one brand-new track called “Wulfa”.
With longtime collaborator and sound engineer Hector Wijnbergen at the helm, ten songs were recorded with the band playing live together in the same room, resulting in the SPECTRAL SOUND SESSIONS album.
The result is a raw, natural-sounding record that captures The Phantom Four the way they are best experienced: live on stage on a hot summer night.
This is a co-release together with Hi-Tide Recordings in the USA.
